Iterati is an end-to-end platform that helps artists and galleries expand their practice with technology that simplifies authentication and powers exciting digital experiences that engage collectors and build community.

## Why it matters

*A large majority of artists do not have secure, durable, and easily verifiable ways of guaranteeing authenticity to their collectors and protecting themselves from forgery.*

Blockchain technology offers a partial solution through its strict consensus mechanisms, which enable creating scarcity in digital environments. This has empowered digital artists to create scarce and provably unique digital artworks and distribute them as NFT's.

Unfortunately this blockchain driven scarcity model has largely been incompatible with traditional art in the physical world, where challenges in verifying authenticity and provenance have created hurdles in the formation of an efficient authenticity standard.

Iterati aims to close this gap with tamper-proof physical identifiers deployed alongside secure digital identifiers in order to imbue physical artworks with the best properties of blockchain without sacrificing quality or creative freedom.

# Tokenize

Create claimable on-chain NFT counterparts for your physical artworks to track provenance and build community.

Every physical artwork you certify with Iterati can optionally be claimed by collectors as a digital token (NFT) on the blockchain. NFT's enable your collectors to truly own the asset on a global decentralized ledger, display your art in digital environments, and update provenance in the event of a secondary sale.

**Minting is completely free** - both for you and for your collectors. Iterati covers all fees associated with minting, and can hold the NFT on behalf of non-technical collectors that are not yet ready to claim.

This turns every NFC tap into an opportunity for further engagement, education, and community growth - while simultaneously providing an authenticity guarantee for the artwork being tapped.

Plug your socials, share an artist bio, link a video showcasing the artistic process - the choice is yours.

Through a simple CMS interface, you can choose how and what to display - choosing from many flexible content options including:

* Claim an NFT on tap
* Descriptions of the physical artwork, its dimensions, and the materials used
* Collection level information and corresponding NFT stats
* Custom text, video, or image content
* Custom link to any third party website or app
* Artist hand drawn signature module (coming soon)

**It is important to highlight that this content is private by default and only available to users who have physically tapped one of your artworks.**

This enables you to create private, customized experiences available only to patrons who buy your physical artwork or come and view it on display.

Collection level analytics to help you track activity and better understand your collector community.

By default, Iterati tracks a variety of key metrics that enable you to learn more about your art, where it is being displayed, and its on-chain activity.

These metrics include:

* Artworks sold through the Iterati storefront
* Revenue generated through the Iterati storefront
* Tap count and frequency
* Tap count broken out by geographic region
* Per artwork NFT claim actions

# Sell

Secure, fully-featured ecommerce functionality empowering creators at any stage of their career to easily sell art online and get paid

Iterati has built fully-featured ecommerce functionality to bring end-to-end utility to those creators looking to sell their works online.

Creators can customize a storefront for each of their collections, define a unique storefront specific URL, and share it on social media or directly with potential buyers.&#x20;

Customization options include per artwork pricing, artwork imagery, descriptions and metadata - as well as collection level descriptions and shipping surcharge.

Iterati has partnered with Stripe to ensure that proceeds from art sales go directly to creators in a safe and timely manner (funds typically land within 24 hours of a transaction).

# Physical Authenticity Labels

Secure, non-cloneable and tamper-evident

Iterati relies on *encrypted, non-cloneable, peel and stick authenticity labels* to power the platform's authenticity guarantees. Creators and gallery operators attach these to the back of any paper or canvas artwork as part of the [certification process](/getting-started/certification-process).

This enables collectors to access engagement and authenticity workflows through a simple smartphone NFC tap.

### Label Encryption & Specs

Iterati labels utilize the widely adopted Type 4 Near Field Communication (NFC) standard, making them compatible with most modern smartphones without requiring a special mobile application. Each Iterati NFC label carries a unique ID and private key that it uses to encrypt all tap operations using a secure industry standard encryption protocol called AES-CMAC.

**This makes it impossible for our labels to be copied or duplicated.**

When tapped, the labels emit a one-time dynamic URL formatted similar to this:

Modern smartphones follow this dynamic URL to the Iterati web application, which verifies the following encrypted query parameters to determine authenticity status and retrieve/display the corresponding digital certificate of authenticity.

`c` - AES CMAC checksum value (used to verify that the request is authentic)

Tamper evident material will tear when removed after initial application - making it possible to remove, but very difficult to remove in one piece and reapply elsewhere.

### Label Validation

Validating an artwork that has been affixed with an Iterati label is an incredibly simple process where users hover their mobile device over the NFC label until the dynamic URL is detected.

**Iterati labels can be detected through paper, canvas or non-metal frames, making it possible to authenticate artworks even when they are on display and the label has been affixed to the back of the artwork.**

There is no special app or software requirement.

# Certificates of Authenticity

Iterati's Certificates of Authenticity are **digital** descriptors which accompany every physical label and contain metadata about the label and the underlying physical artwork it is attached to.

Each physical label must have a corresponding Certificate of Authenticity in order to be considered valid. The process of generating a certificate of authenticity in called [**certification**](/getting-started/certification-process).

## Data Composition

The following fields are a subset of the data stored by each Iterati Certificate of Authenticity

* Label ID - An 8 digit integer value unique to each Iterati label
* Label Image - Hex-encoded binary field which stores the optical fingerprint configuration for this label (unique colors and positions of the microbeads)
* Token ID - Token ID of the NFT corresponding to the physical artwork being scanned
* Contract Address - Blockchain address of the NFT collection containing this Token ID
* Chain ID - [ID number of the EVM chain](https://chainlist.org/) the NFT collection is deployed to
* Artist Address - Address of the artist or collection owner
* Signature - A cryptographically signed attestation from the artist which verifies that this certificate of authenticity was enrolled by the original NFT artist and not anyone else

## Data Storage

Iterati's modular authenticity stack aims to eliminate single points of failure and ensure that the artworks enrolled though the platform survive and can be verified long into the future.

As such, every Iterati Certificate is stored on IPFS through the [Ceramic Network](https://ceramic.network/) - where it is publicly available to be verified and indexed without a middleman or centralized server.

The Ceramic Network is a composable Web3 data network that encourages reusable data models and enables anyone to upload, manage and consume structured data from IPFS.

At the moment, Iterati is handling the overhead of pinning and indexing each COA file, however we hope that developer groups will take on the task of pinning the files which are relevant to them in the future, as an additional layer of redundancy and decentralization.

# Create Your Account

Go to <https://iterati.art/app/login> and use your email to log in.

This will register a new creator account for you and bring you to your creator dashboard, where you can enroll new collections and manage your account data.

# Enroll a Collection

Iterati supports two primary types of collections

1. **Physical Collections** - Provides an easy, free, non-technical way for artists to tokenize a collection of physical works. Iterati will deploy a smart contract and guide you through certifying and minting claimable NFT's for your collection.
2. **Digital Collections** - Let's you enroll an existing NFT collection deployed through other platforms like ArtBlocks, Manifold or Opensea. Your existing NFT holders can than access a token-gated storefront to redeem a certified physical corresponding to an NFT they own.

# Enroll a Physical Collection

For artists looking to certify a collection of physical works

#### 1. Define collection level metadata

Input the basic collection level information for this project

`Collection Image` - Select an image that will represent your collection on Iterati and will be used by the smart contract for display on all external NFT marketplaces.

`Collection Name` - Select a name that will represent your collection on Iterati and will be used by the smart contract for display on all external NFT marketplaces.

`Collection Symbol` - Provide a short trading symbol that will be used for your artworks should they ever trade on a secondary marketplace.

`Support Editions` - With editions, you are able to certify and sell multiple editions for each artwork. If you would rather offer unique 1/1 pieces, leave this box unchecked. **This cannot be changed after you finish enrolling your collection.**

#### 2. Connect a crypto wallet

Connecting a crypto wallet is an important part of establishing the provenance that makes Iterati Certificates of Authenticity secure and durable.

*Think of your crypto wallet as a highly secure way to generate signatures that **cannot** be forged. We bundle these signatures into all our COA's so anyone can verify that the artwork they are validating came directly from you, the creator.*

#### 3. Generate a signed attestation

This is step establishes unfalsifiable provenance. The attestation you generate here is signed by your crypto wallet and bundled into every COA generated for this collection.

***This step will not create a blockchain transaction or cost you any gas.***

#### 4. Confirm and Deploy

Make sure your collection details look good and click deploy.

Congratulations you have just enrolled your first collection onto Iterati!


# Enroll a Digital Collection

For digital artists that have already minted NFT's using another platform

#### 1. Identify your NFT collection

If you are enrolling a collection of NFT's that has already been deployed, then it should have a page on [Opensea](https://opensea.io/).

Find your collection on Opensea and paste its Opensea URL into the Iterati enrollment form.

#### 2. Confirm the network your collection is deployed to

We support importing NFT collections from a variety of EVM based networks like Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum and many others.

Help us confirm that we are enrolling the correct collection by confirming the network it is deployed to.

Y*ou can check this information on Opensea by finding the field called* `Chain`

#### 3. Confirm Collection

After selecting a chain, you should see the collection information load into view. Ensure that this information checks out and that Iterati is enrolling the correct NFT collection onto the platform.

#### 4. Establish Provenance

The purpose of this step is to prevent creators from enrolling collections that they did not deploy or do not control.

*If a creator deployed a collection of digital artworks, **only they** should be able to enroll that collection onto Iterati and benefit from authentic physicals.*

This is ensured through our provenance workflow:

1. Creators connect with their crypto wallet. **They must connect with the same wallet that was used to originally deploy the NFT collection.**
2. The Iterati platform checks the blockchain to ensure that the connected wallet meets one of these requirements
   * Is the smart contract `owner`
   * Has the `DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE`
   * Is the on-chain `artistAddress` (Art Blocks/Art Blocks Engine Projects)
   * Is a [collection collaborator](https://support.opensea.io/hc/en-us/articles/21427266677523-Creator-FAQ-) on Opensea
   * Is the on-chain `artist` (MintGoldDust Projects)
3. If Iterati finds that the connected account does not meet any of these requirements, you will not be able to complete enrollment for this collection.

#### 4. Generate a signed attestation

If our system finds that the connected wallet meets on of our requirements for provenance, you will be asked to generate an artist attestation. The attestation you generate here is signed by your crypto wallet and bundled into every Certificate of Authenticity generated for this collection.

***This step will not create a blockchain transaction or cost you any gas.***

#### 5. Complete Enrollment

Double check that everything looks correct and click deploy.

# Set Up Your Collection

A collection is a logical grouping of artworks. Traditionally, artworks that share a common aesthetic, theme or are meant to be displayed together are grouped into collections.

On Iterati, artworks within the same collection are minted to the same smart contract and share a single storefront which creators can customize and manage using the creator management platform.


# Configure Your Storefront

Creators using the storefront and payment processing functionality provided by Iterati can input their collection level information using the *Storefront Metadata* tab.

`Storefront Status` - A storefront in a **DRAFT** state will not be visible to collectors. Set the storefront to **ACTIVE** to make it public and begin accepting orders.

`Storefront Slug`` `<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - Use this field to customize a shareable URL to your collection. The URL will always begin with `https://iterati.art/collections` but you can determine the last section of the URL with text of your choosing.

`Collection Display Name`` `<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - The name of your collection which is displayed to potential purchasers visiting the storefront.

`Collection Description` - Input a description where you can describe the artworks, collection, or any other information which may be relevant for potential buyers.

`Fee For Shipping`` `<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - Input a collection wide shipping fee in USD that gets added to the order total for any purchased artwork. *If this field is greyed out you will need to first* [*connect your bank account.*](/getting-started/connect-your-bank-account-and-get-paid)

`Shipping Information` - Input any information that may be relevant about the shipping process such as a delivery timeframe and supported delivery destinations.

# Add Collaborators

In some cases, such as when working with a print shop, creators may never personally take possession of the physical artworks prior to shipping them to collectors.

This presents an issue with Iterati certification which is an in-person process that requires physically affixing the artwork with an Iterati label.

#### Certifiers

Iterati enables you to add trusted users called *certifiers* to any of your collections. These users will be able to certify physical artworks on your behalf for any collections which they have access to.

Adding certifiers is useful for creators working with print shops or for galleries with employees/partners that are responsible for order fulfillment.

#### Administrators

Iterati also enables you to add trusted users called *administrators* to any of your collections.  These users will have similar permissions to the collection owner, and can configure storefronts and add artworks to any collections they have access to.

# Add Your Artworks

Create digital profiles for your physical artworks

Artworks are the physical pieces that make up your collection. A collection can consist of any number of artworks - the choice is yours. You can add additional artworks at any time using the `Artworks` tab

By adding an artwork to Iterati, you are creating a *digital profile for your physical art piece* - with customizable text and image based metadata that determines what collectors see upon a successful NFC tap.

The following fields allow you to define the metadata making up your artwork on Iterati

`Display Name`<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - The name of your artwork that gets shown on your storefront and after an NFC tap.

`Price`<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark>  - How much it costs to acquire this artwork on the Iterati storefront. If this field is greyed out you will first need to [connect your bank account](/getting-started/connect-your-bank-account-and-get-paid). *Only relevant if you are using the ecommerce functionality*.

`Edition Count`<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - If you checked `Support Editions` when enrolling the collection, you can define how many editions are available per artwork.

`Material & Dimensions` - Helpful information about the physical work, its dimensions, the canvas, and the artistic medium.

`Artwork Description` - Open ended description of the artwork, its meaning, and the creative process.

`Storefront Image Reel`<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - A set of images to populate the storefront carousel. *Only relevant if you are using the ecommerce functionality*.

`NFT Image`<mark style="color:red;">`*`</mark> - The image that will be used when this physical art piece gets minted to the blockchain as an NFT.

# Define Tap Experience

**Tap Experience** refers to the content that collectors see when they tap one of your certified artworks with their mobile device. Iterati makes it easy to customize the tap experience with personalized content to educate and engage collectors.

#### An Introduction to Modules

Modules are blocks of content that get assembled and displayed to anyone that interacts with one your artworks via an NFC tap.

A module consists of any number of individual fields that store custom text, images, links, and more. Modules are fully customizable, allowing creators to add, remove and arrange fields at any time.

The `Tap Preview` section displays a rough preview of your current tap experience configuration and active modules.

#### Prebuilt Modules

Prebuilt modules are a ready-made set of modules that you can immediately begin using without any prior configuration. These modules exist to ensure that all newly onboarded collections work out of the box with no configuration necessary - but we generally encourage creators to build their own custom modules when they are ready.

#### Custom Modules

Custom modules are completely customizable blocks of information that enable you to upload and arrange content for display to anyone that interacts with your certified artworks.

With custom modules you have full control over every field and can update/order them to tailor exactly how the module will appear to collectors.

You can edit add, remove or rearrange fields for any of your custom modules by clicking the pencil icon besides each module.

Every field has a type that defines what kind of content it can store.

*The current set of field types:*

<mark style="color:blue;">**Text Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Stores custom text content. This text content is static across all of the artworks in the collection.

<mark style="color:blue;">**Image Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Stores a single image. This image can be uploaded via the module editor interface which will make it static across all artworks in the collection. Or you can check the `Use artwork image` option for this field to display each individual artworks' unique NFT image.

<mark style="color:blue;">**URL Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Stores a clickable URL to any 3rd party website or app.

<mark style="color:blue;">**Video Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Stores a custom video URL that plays inline. This field supports streaming video from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Twitch, and many other platforms.

<mark style="color:blue;">**Data Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Enables you to include a custom data point unique to each artwork. This field type displays similarly to a Text Field, but the content is dynamic and based on which artwork from the collection has been tapped.

<mark style="color:blue;">**Button Field**</mark><mark style="color:blue;">:</mark> Similar in function to a URL field, but the button displays more prominently and is useful when including an attention grabbing "Call To Action".

Custom modules even allow you to hide the module name to remove any visual separation between fields in different modules

# Purchase Authenticity Labels

Iterati relies on *encrypted, non-cloneable, peel and stick authenticity labels* to power the platform's authenticity guarantees. Creators and gallery operators attach these to the back of any paper or canvas artwork as part of the [certification process](/getting-started/certification-process).

Acquiring labels is a simple purchase process where creators enter a shipping address and pay with credit/debit card, apple pay, or google pay.

Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery upon placing an order.

# Certification Process

Certification is the process where creators

* Attach an Iterati NFC label to a physical art piece
* Link that NFC label to a digital profile on Iterati (Artwork)
* Mint a corresponding on-chain digital twin (NFT)

After completing certification for an artwork, anyone that taps the attached NFC with their mobile device will initiate the [customizable engagement flow](/introduction/what-we-offer/engage).

#### Prerequisites

Prior to attempting certification make sure that you:

1. [Have purchased a set of Iterati authenticity labels](/getting-started/purchase-authenticity-labels)
2. Have [enrolled a collection](/getting-started/enroll-a-collection) onto the platform with [at least one artwork](/getting-started/set-up-your-collection/add-your-artworks)
3. Are in possession of the physical art piece you would like to certify

#### Step 1. Attach an NFC label to the physical artwork

Select an NFC label in your possession, peel and stick it onto the artwork you will be certifying.&#x20;

We recommend attaching to the *bottom-left hand side of the **back** of the artwork*. This way when the artwork is flipped and being viewed from the front, it will be easily accessible for most people to tap (bottom-right hand corner from the viewer's POV)

#### Step 2. Tap the attached label with your mobile device

Use your mobile device to tap the newly attached NFC label and initiate the certification process

#### Step 3. Log into your creator account

Click the `Creator Account` button and log in with your email

#### Step 4. Select a collection to certify from

Select the collection which contains the artwork that you are certifying

#### Step 5. Select an artwork to certify

Make sure you select the artwork which matches the physical work you have just labeled

#### Step 6. Confirm Certification

***This process cannot be undone -*** so please ensure you are certifying the correct artwork.

Click the `Certify This Artwork` button and wait for a success confirmation.

# Connect Your Bank Account & Get Paid

#### Connecting Your Bank Account With Stripe

Creators that utilize Iterati's storefront and payment processing functionality will have to connect their bank account through Stripe prior to being able to make sales.

From the `My Account` tab - click the `Connect Your Bank Account` button to initiate a simple and secure onboarding flow with Stripe

&#x20;You will need to provide information like:

* Name
* Address
* DOB
* Phone Number
* SSN or TaxID - *last 4 digits only*
* Bank Connection - *For receiving payments only, Iterati cannot make charges to this account*

After completing Stripe onboarding you will be able to update your storefront with per artwork pricing and a shipping surcharge.

#### Publishing you collection storefront

Now that you can receive funds when sales occur through one of your storefronts, you will want to publish your storefront so that it becomes visible to potential collectors.&#x20;

Go to the `Storefront Metadata` tab and flip the `Storefront Status` to 'ACTIVE'

At this point your storefront has become public and you can freely share the storefront URL on social media or directly with potential buyers.

If you would like to deactivate the storefront - you can set the `Storefront Status` back to 'DRAFT'

Key terms and concepts

#### Iterati Label

The Iterati physical authenticity label is an encrypted, non-cloneable, NFC based authenticity label which creators attach to their physical artworks as part of the certification process. Labels are tamper-evident and cannot be removed/reattached to another object after initial application.

#### Certificate of Authenticity

Iterati's Certificates of Authenticity are digital descriptors/profiles linked to every physical label that contain metadata about the label and its associated physical artwork. Certificates of Authenticity are stored using a decentralized data store called the [Ceramic Network](https://ceramic.network).

#### Collection Enrollment

Enrollment is the process of adding a new collection to the Iterati platform, either by importing an existing NFT smart contract or deploying a new custom NFT smart contract through Iterati.

#### Collection

A collection is a logical grouping of artworks. Traditionally, artworks that share a common aesthetic, theme or are meant to be displayed together are grouped into collections. On Iterati, artworks within the same collection are minted to the same smart contract and share a single storefront, which creators are able to customize with collection-level metadata.

#### Artwork

Adding an artwork to Iterati can be thought of as creating a digital profile for a physical artwork. This digital profile contains text and image based metadata that gets seen by collectors who tap its associated NFC label.

#### Certification

Certification describes the process of attaching an Iterati NFC label to a physical work and linking that NFC label to a digital profile on Iterati with a Certificate of Authenticity.

### Underlying Technologies

#### NFC

NFC or Near-Field-Communication is a short-range wireless communication protocol, typically requiring a distance of 4 cm or less to initiate a connection. NFC lets you share small payloads of data between an NFC tag and powered devices like modern smart phones.

#### AES-CMAC

AES-CMAC, based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), is a highly secure method for verifying the authenticity and integrity of information. It generates a unique code (or tag) for data, making it extremely difficult for unauthorized parties to alter or forge the data without detection. Iterati labels use AES-CMAC to ensure every NFC tap is authentic.

#### IPFS

The [Interplanetary File System](https://ipfs.tech/) (IPFS) is a decentralized file system for storing and discovering content over a peer-to-peer network of nodes.

#### Ceramic Network

The [Ceramic Network](https://ceramic.network/) is a decentralized data network built on top of IPFS enabling applications to upload, mutate, and index data stored on IPFS nodes.

#### Non-Fungible Token (NFT)

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are unique cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique properties and metadata that distinguish them from each other.

### Do I have to sell my art on the Iterati storefront to use the platform?

The storefront and payment processing functionality is optional and creators/groups can still use the authenticity and engagement tech while selling through their preferred channels.

### Can I customize the appearance of the physical labels?

We are happy to discuss customized label branding for your project, although this introduces a 500 label order minimum and adds about \~3 weeks in manufacture time.
